Connections Job Overview Reporting to the Director of the Center
for Vocation and Career, the Associate Director for Employer
Connections is a key member of the CVC leadership team. This
leadership team, which includes the Associate Director for Career
Education, develops strategies to equip every Wheaton student with
tools and opportunities to discover, prepare for, and launch into
their next steps to help build the Church and benefit society
worldwide. This position supervises the Employer Connections team,
identifies and develops strong relationships and hiring pipelines
with employers in key industries, and advises students as
opportunities allow. Duties and Responsibilities Creating
Vocational Development Opportunities for Students
- Manages and directly supervises two full-time employees on the
Employer Connections team, including but not limited to:
recruiting, hiring, training, identifying and coordinating
professional development opportunities, managing workloads, and
using quarterly metrics to assess individual and team
effectiveness
- Leads the development and execution of a strategic approach to
employer engagement; grows connections with key industries,
geographies, employers, organizations, and alumni
- Works with the Director to identify and develop opportunities
for students to gain skills and experiences, including programming
during the academic year (events, on-campus employment, workshops,
etc.) and summer opportunities (internships, research
opportunities, etc.)
- Develops opportunities for employers to engage with and recruit
on campus; thinks creatively to increase positive student and
employer interactions
- Builds relationships with on-campus employers and co-creates
programs that facilitate the development of career competencies and
workforce readiness for Wheaton students
- Identifies skills employers are seeking in early career hires;
works with coaching team to develop and implement strategic
skill-building initiatives and curriculum
- Maintains active role in professional associations to remain
current with employer/college trends and establish/maintain
relationships with recruiters
- Collaborate with other CVC staff to maintain a knowledge of
current industry trends and new career opportunities for students
Leading in the CVC
- Collaborates with Director to identify communication and
outreach strategies to encourage engagement with students and build
relationships with various departments on campus
- With the Director, develops and implements strategies to enable
the CVC to reach growth goals
- Researches best practices, oversees the collection and analysis
of data, and engages in professional development to ensure the CVC
is offering the latest innovations to our students and young
alumni
- Publicly represents the CVC and the College in a manner
consistent with Wheaton College and the CVC's values
- Builds and maintains a diverse network of Wheaton alumni and
industry professionals to serve as resources to Wheaton students
and CVC team
- Functions as an advocate for CVC staff and Student Workers,
enables execution of CVC vision while supporting and developing all
direct reports This job description is intended to represent key
areas of responsibilities; specific assignments may vary from time
to time, and other duties may be assigned. - Required
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of professional experience, sales preferred; 2-3
years of management experience
- High degree of personal responsibility and commitment to
strategic planning, goal setting, excellent communication,
improvement, innovation, and high performance - personally, for the
coaching team, and for the overall work of the CVC
- Strong knowledge of industries, job functions/roles, corporate
cultures
- Demonstrated record of accomplishment and experience managing
projects and people, including ability to motivate and empower
staff and student workers
- Experience developing programs for ethnically diverse
populations, First Generation college students, and other
underserved student populations Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with undergraduates; ability to work with
faculty, employers, and alumni
- Comfortable creating trainings, workshops, and other
programming to assist students and staff
- Willingness to travel when necessary Physical Requirements The
employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently
required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to
stand, walk, reach, bend, or lift up to 10 pounds. FLSA Status -
